Letters of May 19 - June 5, 1916 are at end of series (out of chronological order) Forty letters, Nov. 9, 1915 - Aug. 19,
1916, many as journal entries, written almost entirely to her mother, Flora D. Winter of Washington, D.C. while traveling
with her husband, Charles Atwood Kofoid, Professor of Zoology, Univ. of Calif., Berkeley, on his sabbatical research trip,
in part as special agent for the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries, studying Japanese pearl culture. Cover the motor trip from Berkeley
to Seattle, ocean voyage on the Japanese freighter Shidzuoka Maru to Tokyo, and via other ships to Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore,
Malacca, Ceylon and southern India; and return trip. Detailed commentary regarding shipboard and hotel accommodations, fellow
passengers, local sights, and Anglo-American culture in the Far East.
(Cont.) Observations on servants, transportation, health care, missionary work (e.g.Y.W.C.A.) References to Prof. Kofoid's
scientific work on parasitology and tropical medicine. Included also: two letters by Charles Atwood Kofoid: letter, May 16,
